Over the past six months Kilikanoon Wines has submitted wines to four different internationally acclaimed wine shows.
The results are outstanding.
In November 2018 Kilikanoon Wines was awarded 'Best Australian Winery’ at the International Wine and Spirits Championship in London; and the 2014 Oracle Shiraz was declared the ‘Best Shiraz in the World’.
This is not the first time Oracle has been bestowed that honour. Both the 2002 and 2005 vintages were also rated ‘Best in the World’.
That is three times in twelve years. No other Australian wine has such a record of success.
In March 2019 the wine show associated with Prowein in Germany, Mundus Vini also declared Kilikanoon ‘Australia's Best Producer’.
In fact the Mundus Vini judges also rated Kilikanoon number one in 2010, 2017, and 2018!
This German show also awarded the 2016 Kilikanoon Mort's Reserve Riesling ‘Australian’s Best of Show - White Wine’.
The International Wine Challenge announced results in May 2019. The 2015 Oracle received a Gold Medal re-enforcing the pedigree of this outstanding wine.
Also this month the Decanter wine awards were announced in London. The 2014 Attunga Shiraz, a wine made from a Clare Valley vineyard planted in 1865, was awarded the 'Best Wine of the Show'.
Previous Decanter shows have given Trophies to the 2012 Killerman's Run Cabernet Sauvignon and GSM in their price class, and to the 2012 Tregea Reserve Cabernet as best Australian wine made from Bordeaux varieties.
Kilikanoon's international show success over the past year is unprecedented, but not un-anticipated. In fact Australia's leading wine critic James Halliday declared Kilikanoon "Australian Winery of the Year" in his 2013 Compendium.
No other winery can boast being awarded Australia's best winery six times in nine years from three different independent sources. No other winery has received best in the World or Australia for Shiraz, Cabernet, GSM and Riesling.
These accolades are reward for an uncompromised commitment to quality.
"We are not only proud of our achievements, but wish to recognise this success for the Clare Valley. Clare's high diurnal temperature difference - warm days and cool nights - deliver ripe varietal power and elegance through acid retention. The Clare Valley is one of the most diverse appellations in the world. Kilikanoon leverages this diversity by sourcing from all corners of the region, and composing wines of consistent quality and style year in, year out," says Founder, shareholder and Chief Winemaker Kevin Mitchell.
It is always the top of our pyramid of wines that will win trophies ... but the same commitment to excellence and the same amazing Clare Valley conditions result in outstanding wines at all price levels.
