The Covenant is composed from selected vineyards located in the Clare Valley. An excellent season and vintage for Shiraz in the Clare Valley, the generally warm and dry conditions of 2014 maximising the flavour potential of all the fruit parcels whilst the regions famed elevation, providing cool night time temperatures ensuring elegance and long cellaring potential.Selected parcels of handpicked fruit were fermented separately from five vineyards across the region and allowed to age for 18 months in small French oak casks before final blending and bottling.

This year, our Rosé was made as a cuveé of two old grenache vineyards, one adjacent the old Watervale Hotel and the other, a vineyard in Leasingham that was planted in 1944.
Both vineyards are well suited to making Rosé, possessing larger, juicier berries that have lower skin to juice ratios, thus maximising flavour. Both vineyards are hand pruned and hard harvested and managed in a very sustainable way.
Picked earlier that would otherwise for a fuller bodied red wine, both vineyards were harvested around 12.5 degrees Baumé to ensure freshness and a savoury to red cherry flavour spectum was achieved. Only given one hour skin contact, both parcels were gently pressed off and cold settled before fermenting cool at 13 degrees for 3 weeks. 0.65% of dry grown Mataro was added to introduce some additional spicy and savoury notes.

A very inviting and fresh wine, bringing together the flavours of red cherries, oriental spices and rose petals, beautifully balanced with zesty natural acidity and a touch of naturally retained grape sweetness. Although made to enjoy whilst young, additional benefit will be attained from one to two years of careful cellaring.

Sourced predominantly from the cooler Woodvale vineyard in the Skilly Valley and only a few hundred meters from our picturesque Kilikanoon cellar door near Penwortham.
For the most part, 2018 was a challenging vintage; a very dry spring, low summer rainfall and a dry harvest period threw up a number of challenges to both our winemaking and viticultural teams. But through careful vineyard management, attention to the finest detail and by selecting the best fruit possible, the year has turned out to be a quite a surprise package for our Skilly Pinot Gris. Intense flavours, good acid structure and strong balance hallmarks of the season.
Created in a leaner, more complex style than many fuller bodied Pinot Gris’s that are currently on the market, this predominantly Skilly Valley sourced cuvee’ was crushed and drained before a cool three week fermentation took place. The ferment cut short at the very end in order to retain a hint of natural grape sugar to give the wine some added texture.

Layers of pear, quince and exotic spices infuse the nose, lifted and aromatic.
Riper notes of preserved pears, hints of kiwi fruit and cinnamon spices crowd out the palate, perfectly cocooned within lingering acidity and a small amount of retained sweetness that adds both texture and character to the final blend.

First made back in 1997 and still definitely one of the sentimental favourites in our Kilikanoon portfolio, the Prodigal continues to set the standard for Clare Valley old vine Grenache.2013 was another good year for Grenache; the vintage was mostly trouble free, the warm dry days and cool nights influenced by the regions unique topography and elevation promoting fruit freshness, elegance and flavour intensity. Made as a final blend from two old Watervale vineyards, each parcel was vinified separately, basket pressed and allowed to mature for 16 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads before final bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Our Block's Road cuvee is a careful blend of two 43 year old vineyards located in the Leasingham sub region of the Clare Valley.With the cool nights, warm days and mostly dry conditions perfect in slowing down the ripening process, elevating the distinctive regional fruit characters, varietal complexity and elegant tannin structures.
Traditional vinification methods, including basket pressing, open fermentation and ageing in a combination of new and seasoned French oak casks, furthering the wines interest and cellaring potential.

As a variety, Semillon is so well suited to the Clare Valley, just like Riesling, it benefits from the elevated landscapes, fertile soils and higher natural rainfall of the region. 2015 was another standout vintage, with the early, drier than average start to the growing season, saved by substantial rainfall in January and three weeks of cool weather leading up to the harvest in early February.
One hundred percent barrel fermentation and maturation for six months in new and one year old French oak barrels has complemented and enhanced the fresh varietal vineyard characteristics of the Semillon grape; citrus and cut grass. Twice weekly battonage (lees stirring) has added to the wines complexity and creamy palate structure.

Our Mort's Block Riesling is once again a blend of 100% Watervale Riesling, carefully selected and blended from three unique vineyard sites located only minutes from the Kilikanoon winery.
Made as a blend of three higher altitude Watervale sites, all fruit was hand picked and sorted with only free run juice used for the final cuvee.

The cooler nature of the vintage has resulted in an intensely flavoured and tightly wound Riesling style, with bracing natural acidity beautifully harmonising the juicier lime and citrus flavours of the variety. Its long and persistent finish the perfect indication that this vintage will be one to reward with further cellaring time to increase its complexity and appeal.

A special and highly sought after wine, made only in certain vintages, The Kilikanoon Divinity is sourced entirely from a small plot of Viognier on our Estate owned, Trillian's Hill vineyard, east of Penwortham in the Clare Valley.Fortified using brandy spirit halfway through ferment, the wine then spends over thirty months ageing in old oak hogsheads to impart further interest and complexity. The locations high altitude of 500 meters requires the fruit to hang well into April before harvesting for it to reach its acclaimed and luscious potential.

Creatively layered and textured, the flavours of toffee, turkish delight and aged walnuts come together in a whirlpool of increasing decadence. Each fruit parcel was harvested and kept separate throughout the winemaking process until final assemblage. Small open topped fermenters were used, the fruit remaining on skins until completely dry before basket pressing to seasoned French hogheads and allowed to mature in the cellar for 15 months. The final blend being bottled both unfined and unfiltered.
