The Covenant is composed from selected vineyards located in the Clare Valley. An excellent season and vintage for Shiraz in the Clare Valley, the generally warm and dry conditions of 2014 maximising the flavour potential of all the fruit parcels whilst the regions famed elevation, providing cool night time temperatures ensuring elegance and long cellaring potential.Selected parcels of handpicked fruit were fermented separately from five vineyards across the region and allowed to age for 18 months in small French oak casks before final blending and bottling.

Very much a sentimental favourite, the Duke is carefully blended from two single Grenache vineyards in Watervale, aged 72 and 78 years respectively. Both vineyards dry farmed, hand pruned and hand harvested.From each hand-picked parcel arriving at the winery, to the small open topped fermenters that were used, to the basket pressing to three to six-year-old seasoned French oak hogsheads, traditional vilification processes have been followed, hardly changed over many generations of winemaking. Some extended skin contact and bottling the final cuvee, both unfined and unfiltered, has maximised the wines true potential.

A 100% single vineyard wine, hand selected from the traditionally pruned bush vine Kelly vineyard in Sevenhill, planted in 1932.An important wine within our Reserve portfolio, the Kelly Grenache gets maximum attention in the cellar. We know that great wines always start off in the vineyard, but once this small parcel of fruit arrives at our winery, it is vinified in a small open-topped fermenter, allowed extended time on skins, basket pressed into seasoned French oak hogsheads and allowed to mature for 15 months in the cellar. Bottling the wine both unfined and unfiltered has further enhanced its complexity.

Our finest Riesling cuvee' of each season, the 2014 Mort's Reserve was crafted as a blend from two distinctive Watervale vineyard sites, the higher altitude Khileyre vineyard and the more southerly Mort's Block vineyard.

With the exception of the 2011 vintage, each year since 1997 we have released the iconic Oracle Shiraz. Crafted from old vine fruit grown along the Golden Hillside in Leasingham, it continues to display the opulence, regional character and varietal power the valley is so renown for.
2014 was a cooler and more protracted vintage in the Clare Valley, allowing the Shiraz blocks along the west face of the Golden Hillside to ripen more slowly, bringing all parcels to their very optimum levels of maturity.
Low yielding Shiraz parcels were chosen across our Golden Hillside vineyards, vinfied separately using time honoured traditional techniques, then aged for 18 months in a selection of new and one year old French oak hogsheads. Bottling occurred without any fining or filtration.

The release of the 2014 Prophecy Barossa Valley Shiraz, available only to Kilikanoon Wine Club members, has been vinified and blended from selected premium vineyards in the renowned Barossa Valley.The employment of traditional winemaking methods, including open fermentation, basket pressing and bottling the wine unfiltered, has enhanced the structure and intensity of the wine. Twenty months maturation in French oak casks has further strengthened its cellaring potential and appeal.

Released as our finest Riesling cuveé of the vintage, the 2015 Mort’s Reserve was chosen from a single block on our famed Mort’s Block vineyard. Planted in 1970, it’s red loamy topsoil over the much deeper limestone base and east – west orientated rows are the perfect ingredients from which to craft this wine.
The 2015 vintage proved to be an excellent one for Riesling. We carefully monitored flavour development and identified very early in the vintage which blocks were looking superior. The quality of the fruit almost enabled the wine to make itself. The cooler nights are instrumental in retaining high natural acidities, intense flavours and long ageing potentials.

As a variety, Semillon is so well suited to the Clare Valley, just like Riesling, it benefits from the elevated landscapes, fertile soils and higher natural rainfall of the region. 2015 was another standout vintage, with the early, drier than average start to the growing season, saved by substantial rainfall in January and three weeks of cool weather leading up to the harvest in early February.
One hundred percent barrel fermentation and maturation for six months in new and one year old French oak barrels has complemented and enhanced the fresh varietal vineyard characteristics of the Semillon grape; citrus and cut grass. Twice weekly battonage (lees stirring) has added to the wines complexity and creamy palate structure.

Traditional methods of open fermentation, extended skin contact and basket pressing took place before transferring straight to a selection of new and seasoned small French oak casks. The wine was allowed to soften and mature for 16 months before final assemblage and bottling, both unfined and unfiltered.
