Kilikanoon’s Guide to the Best MICHELIN Visits in the Clare Valley

Kilikanoon’s Guide to the Best MICHELIN Visits in the Clare Valley

The Clare Valley has always been great at wine. Now, it’s getting some well-deserved attention for its food, too.

With the MICHELIN Guide arriving in South Australia, there’s even more reason to plan a visit. From a one-star restaurant to some great local dining, here are a few places worth adding to your list.

And naturally, no Clare Valley visit is complete without a wine tasting at Kilikanoon!

1. Skillogalee Barrel House: One MICHELIN Star

If there’s one dining experience to put on your list for a special occasion, it’s our neighbours at Skillogalee Barrel House.

Just down the road, among the rolling hills and vineyards, you’ll find Chef Dan Moss serving up some fantastic food. Dan has cooked at our annual Feast of Biblical Proportions long lunch, so we know firsthand what he can do. His MICHELIN Star is a fantastic achievement for him, the team and the region!

Our tip: Make a booking and give yourself time to enjoy the setting.

2. Antidote Kitchen: Bib Gourmand

For something a little different, Antidote Kitchen in Clare is well worth a visit.

Located in a historic mill, Antidote combines contemporary Australian cooking with Indian-inspired flavours. It's a great option if you're after something a little different from the usual fare.

Its Bib Gourmand recognition highlights good cooking at more accessible prices, making it a great stop while exploring the valley.

Our tip: The plates are pretty generous, so share with a friend if you have a smaller appetite!

3. Penobscot: MICHELIN Selected

For a more intimate dining experience, put Penobscot in Watervale on your list.

Located at the Watervale Hotel, its ten-seat chef’s counter focuses on seasonal produce, including ingredients grown at nearby Penobscot Farm. The menu changes with the seasons, depending on what's available.

Our tip: They have a great wine list, including a wide range of Kilikanoon wines!

4. Slate Restaurant: MICHELIN Selected

Located at Pikes Wines on the other side of the valley, Slate is another great spot for lunch.

Expect vineyard views, contemporary Australian cooking and a relaxed setting. There's also wine tasting and a brewery on the estate, so you can easily spend a few hours here.

Our tip: Grab a table with a view and settle in for a leisurely lunch.

Finish with a tasting at Kilikanoon Cellar Door

Of course, no trip to the Clare Valley would be complete without trying some of the local wines.

Our historic cellar door, nestled in the rolling hills and vineyards outside Penwortham, is open daily from 11am to 5pm. Drop in for a tasting and explore our range, from Riesling and Grenache to Shiraz and our distinctive old-vine wines.

Make Kilikanoon your next stop and round out your Clare Valley food adventure with a glass or two.
