Place
Sourced solely from the famed Mort’s Block Vineyard in the Clare Valley sub-region of Watervale, the Mort’s Reserve is a true expression of this revered single vineyard. The vines were planted in 1970, into red loamy topsoil over a deep limestone base and east-west row orientation creating the perfect resource from which to craft this wine.
Vintage Conditions
Winter rains in 2022 led into a mild and late spring and subsequent summer. These conditions resulted in the vines slowly progressing through their growth and in turn delayed the ripening of the grapes, resulting in full flavours and balanced natural acidities. These conditions were ideal for the selected Riesling bunches, as their harvesting occurred without time pressure. A more bold vintage for drinkers and collectors alike.
Winemaking
Fruit for this Reserve wine was picked on the 14th of March. The whole bunches were then gently pressed, and the free-run juice cold settled for three days before being racked to stainless-steel tanks for fermentation. The fermentation was undertaken at low temperatures and continued for 14 days naturally finishing dry. The wine was then chilled and allowed to naturally clarify.

Tasting Notes
Back Vintage Tasting Notes-
Appearance
Pale lemon with a pristine clarity.
-
Nose
Subtle aromas of white peach blossom and green apple skin with soft layering note of oyster shell.
-
Palate
Delicate and crisp, this wine fills the mouth with a chalky palate, fine talcum like tannins and a long, clean quinine finish. Fresh flavours of ripe mandarin pith are intertwined with the classic Watervale sweetened lime, which is carried on the back of the natural acidity throughout the length of the wine.
