Vintage Conditions

A dry, cool autumn in 2021 lead into good winter rains. Above average spring falls gave way to a very cool, dry summer of 2022. These conditions slowed the ripening of the grapes, resulting in full flavours and focused natural acidities. Overall conditions were
reminiscent of those seen a decade ago. These factors were ideal for the variety, making it a superb vintage where the quantity and quality were exceptional.

Winemaking

Parcels of Shiraz for this exclusive wine were selected from the eastern rows of the famed Mort's Block and our most northern Clare Shiraz vineyard, Mt Surmon. These elevated sites with plantings of Shiraz have alternative aspect, altitude and soil profiles; providing the subtle nuances required to produce a layered wine that is concentrated, yet finely balanced. With fermentation lasting on an average of 14 days, each parcel of grapes were hand plunged before being basket pressed.
