Kilikanoon Wines
Our Kilikanoon winemaking team push the boundaries each harvest, seeking out new varietals and creating new styles to entice wine lovers. Delving into the sub regions of the Clare Valley provides an endless world of possibility; diverse microclimates, soils and aspect, all combine to provide a rich palette for experimentation. It is through this lens that we bring you Kx; Kilikanoon’s Small Batch wines.
A single vineyard, single barrel Grenache made using whole grape bunches. The Seven days spent on skins with daily “pigeage” (foot stomping) the wine was gently basket pressed into a single oak puncheon (500 l) where fermentation continued for a further 12 days. This whole bunch processing preserves the fresh red berry fruit aromas and flavours to glisten and sing with little winemaker artifice.
100% of the batch was whole bunch fermented, and spent 7 days on skins and stems with daily foot-stomping, before being pressed to barrel where fermentation took another 12 days to complete. The short barrel maturation in large format oak helps to retain the vibrant primary fruit flavours and aromatics, while adding depth and complexity to the wine.
Ripe red cherry, rose petal, and sage.
Bright red berries and cherries, with hints of sweet spice and licorice, give way to charcuterie and subtle oak characteristics on the long, clean finish.
