Coming from the east and west ridges of our estate property, this vintage shows all the hallmark traits of a cool climate Clare Valley wine with well-integrated tannin and oak. A hot and dry year allowed for full ripening of the grapes. This shows in the intense flavours and aromas of big red fruits and dark brambly notes all of which is underpinned by a delightfully smooth finish. Elegant and powerful, this wine is quite simply, a winter’s delight.

Vintage Conditions

2020 was a hot and dry year in Clare Valley. It forced the vines to push deep into the soil, yet also allowed for full ripening of the grapes. Lower than average rainfall created a few challenges, but through careful fruit selection and final blending a wine of elegance and poise was crafted.

Winemaking

Parcels of Shiraz for this exclusive wine were selected from the east and west ridges of the Golden Hillside, right by the Kilikanoon winery. These elevated sites with multiple plantings of Shiraz with differing aspect, altitude and soil profiles provide the subtle nuances required to produce a wine of both power and elegance. Fermentation lasted between 7 and 10 days, with plunging and pump overs occurring two to three times daily. Each parcel remained separate until the final blend was assembled.
