Sourced solely from the famed Mort’s Block Vineyard in the Clare Valley sub-region of Watervale, the Mort’s Reserve is a true expression of this revered single vineyard. The vines were planted in 1973, into red loamy topsoil over a deep limestone base and east-west row orientation creating the perfect resource from which to craft this wine.

Winemaking

Fruit for this Reserve wine was picked on the 28th of February, a full ten days earlier than the rest of Mort’s Block. The whole bunches were then gently pressed, and the free-run juice cold settled for three days before being racked to a stainless-steel tanks for fermentation. The fermentation was undertaken at low temperatures, and continued for 14 days naturally finishing dry. The wine was then chilled and allowed to naturally clarify.

Appearance

Very pale lemon with straw hue, the wine has a bright clarity.

Nose

A very complex yet subtle aroma of jasmine flowers, white nectarine and lime juice.

Palate

The wine has a seamless flow with a softened acidity at the core that carries the lime and lemon flavours, hints of thyme all tightly would around a fine, chalky acidity. 2020 is a generous vintage that is reflected in the concentration of fruit on the palate while holding a firm line that lingers on the finish.
