Place
The Golden Hillside Shiraz is sourced from selected parcels of fruit grown on our estate owned vineyards around the Kilikanoon winery in Leasingham, a small settlement in the southern Clare Valley. Originally planted after the first world war by returned soldiers, these unique plots of land continue to provide us with an amazing fruit resource.
Vintage Conditions
Following the dry year prior and coupled with lower than average winter rain fall, the vines entered the fruiting season early and under trying conditions. While detrimental to some varieties, the Shiraz vines thrived. The Shiraz vines in response produced lower
than average yields, however increasing the concentration of each berry as they focused their energy into the grapes.
Winemaking
All blocks were harvested mid-March, each parcel kept separate and vinified traditionally in small open topped fermenters before basket pressing to a range of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads. After fifteen months’ maturation, the final cuvée was assembled and bottled without fining or filtration to maximise the wines character and integrity.

Overview
"Upfront and perfumed, the bouquet shows blackberry, olive, smoked game and roasted nut aromas, followed by a richly flavoursome palate offering plump mouthfeel and supple texture. Generous and mouthfilling with sturdy tannins, finishing robust and persistent." Sam Kim - Wine OrbitPlace
