Place
Planted in 1865 the Attunga vineyard is situated just north of the township of Auburn. The vineyard consists of only 12 rows on the western facing slope where the bunches can ripen fully in the warmth of the afternoon sun.
Vintage Conditions
The Attunga 1865 Shiraz celebrates the incredible legacy and longevity of a tiny, single Shiraz vineyard that was planted near Auburn in the Clare Valley over 150 years ago. Cropping at less than one tonne per acre, the berries are tiny, thick skinned and hand sorted.
Winemaking
Open fermented and basket pressed before maturation in a combination of new and one-year-old, tight grained, French oak hogsheads for 22 months. The Attunga 1865 is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserved and enhanced the vineyard's unique terroir and varietal character.

Overview
This Single Vineyard wine is crafted from a small patch of ancestor vines. Planted in 1865, they are the oldest continually producing vines in the region. Dry-grown, and producing just a few bunches per vine, the grapes produce a rich, concentrated flavour. Only released in outstanding seasons, the Attunga 1865 Shiraz is a testament to vision, hard work and endurance."Longevity runs in its vinous veins. So, too, does generosity. This is one deeply fruited wine, impressive in weight with a familiar Clare Valley boldness to its personality. Acacia, briar, earth scents mix with black cherry and plum, chocolate and Dutch liquorice with hints of savoury black olive. Oak is up the challenge laid down, starring on a palate in prominent woodsy spices in cassia bark and chocolate. Tannins are equally generous and finely textured. Finishes long with a savoury nod to chocolate-covered marzipan that brings a super clean full stop to a most drinkable and enjoyable piece of Clare Valley wine history." Jeni Port - Winepilot
