Showcasing the most distinguished of Kilikanoon's terroir, and produced only during the finest of vintages, Mort's Reserve Riesling is a symphony of texture and complexity, exhibiting the unique and unequivocal essence of Kilikanoon.
The 2014 vintage really turned it on when it counted the most, with warm, late summer days and very cool nights being the prevailing order of things as the harvest approached. This textbook finish to the season, being perfect conditions in creating Classic Clare Valley Rieslings of vibrant acidity, intense flavour profiles and long ageing potential.
From the Khileyre and Mort's Block vineyards. A fleshy, rich riesling with hallmarks of ageing coming in well-balanced to retain freshness. Lime pickle, crystallised ginger, red apple juice, lavender oil, cinnamon spice and light, honeyed toast notes all combine well. There's power and grace here, a nice bit of chalky grip, a sense of energy and yet that curl of pleasing maturity on show. A wine in its prime.
- Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion.
Appearance
Brilliant in clarity, almost translucent in appearance with youthful green tints.
Nose
Impressively overt in style, the lifted aromas of fresh lemon juice, garden florals and citrus rind combine beautifully.
Palate
A beguiling palate of lemon zest, hand squeezed limes and piercing acidity come together in a layered and persistent flavour experience. Made in a true Reserve style, the wine builds in the mouth and unleashes a riot of regional expression, focussed energy and cleansing linearity.
