Made only in exceptional years, our 2007 Attunga 1865 Shiraz continues the incredible legacy of a small single site Shiraz crafted from a commercially owned vineyard planted in 1865.

Winemaking

The Attunga 1865 Shiraz celebrates the incredible legacy and longevity of a tiny, single Shiraz vineyard that was planted near Auburn in the Clare Valley over 150 years ago. Cropping at less than one tonne per acre, the berries are tiny, thick skinned and hand sorted, then open fermented and basket pressed before maturation in a combination of new and one-year-old, tight grained, French oak hogsheads for 27 months. The Attunga 1865 is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve and enhance the vineyard's unique terroir and varietal character.

Appearance

Brick red in colour with vibrant crimson hues.

Nose

Richly lifted and focused nose, a complex blend of dark plums, old liquorice, tarry notes and generously framed toasty French oak spices.

Palate

An opulently textured yet surprisingly refined and linear palate, the wine superbly represents the very best of fine, age-worthy Clare Valley Shiraz. The impressive primary flavours of deep plums, dark cherries and fresh liquorice seamlessly combine with the potent strains of new French oak and fine tannins in an obvious ode to its impeccable pedigree. Its length and structure is a clear indicator of its maturation potential.

  • Deep, but vivid, crimson-purple; a great Australian full-bodied shiraz, 150yo vines planted on terra rossa and limestone soil, and given kid gloves in the winery. The rich and velvety array of black fruits are framed by quality oak and tannins that the French might say are a' point: definitely there, but unobtrusive. It will amble through the next 50 years.
      • ALC/VOL: 14.5%
      • Size: 750ML
      • Closure: Cork
      • Varietal: Shiraz
      • Cellaring: Potential of at least 15 - 20 years with careful cellaring.
