Our Kilikanoon winemaking team push the boundaries each harvest, seeking out new varietals and creating new styles to entice wine lovers. Delving into the sub regions of the Clare Valley provides an endless world of possibility; diverse microclimates, soils and aspect, all combine to provide a rich palette for experimentation. It is through this lens that we bring you Kx; Kilikanoon’s Small Batch wines.
Riesling is a steady hand in the Clare Valley. The region is synonymous with variety, and it creates intensity and concentration of flavours rarely seen elsewhere in Australia. This Kx Small Batch wine is made in a unique way. Taking only the free-run juice that flows from the grapes after picking (this is the most delicate of the grape juice) the clear juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks with the fermentation arrested before all of the sugars are consumed by the yeast. This creates a wine of moderate alcohol at just 8% abv, while retaining a small amount of balancing residual sugar. In much the same way that German Rieslings combine sugar, acid, and alcohol to craft moorish, lip-smacking wines, here we have a new take on an old master.
Enticing kaffir lime juice and orange citrus aromas with hints of pure bath soap and white flowers. Delicate spice and honeysuckle round out a wonderfully fresh and vibrant aroma.
Initial intense lemon-citrus and lime flavours. A beguiling balance of mouth-watering acidity and gentle sweetness weave themselves harmoniously through the lacy and poised structure. Crafted with moderate alcohol in mind, this wine remains long and generous, with a finish that is not the least bit cloying.
