Kilikanoon Wines

$35.00

Our Kilikanoon winemaking team push the boundaries each harvest, seeking out new varietals and creating new styles to entice wine lovers. Delving into the sub regions of the Clare Valley provides an endless world of possibility; diverse microclimates, soils and aspect, all combine to provide a rich palette for experimentation. It is through this lens that we bring you Kx; Kilikanoon’s Small Batch wines.

Known by multiple names and grown widely around the world - perhaps most famously as part of the 'Holy Trinity' of the the Rhône Valley, Mourvèdre is a malleable variety that is greatly impacted by the seasons and the hands that guide it through the winery. From a single block in Seven Hill and hand-picked due to the age of the vines, the bunches were taken to the winery in picking bins. On arrival, these bins were stomped and allowed to sit on skins for 72 hours prior to inoculation with a non-Saccharomyces yeast. Solely plunged over the next 14 days, the bins were then tipped into a slotted basket. The wine was then placed into a single aged French oak puncheon for maturation for 9 months.

  • Nose

Bright and intense, aromas of spiced dark fruit are underpinned by subtle smoky savoriness and a varietal leaf character.

    Palate

The seamless flow of this wine fills the palate while retaining the light and lighter body due to the whole bunches in the ferment.
A complex flavour profile with notes of ripe cherry, sarsaparilla, graphite and subtle oak all work in harmony.
A river stone-like minerality flavours the crunchy acidity and clean line of the wine that is persistent on the palate.
