2017 Skilly Valley Pinot Gris

A cool climate Pinot Gris, majority sourced from the Woodvale vineyard in the Skillogallee Valley.

  • Winemaking

2017 was a cool and delayed vintage with the higher than average rainfall and below average temperatures with many of the older traditional Clare Valley growers comparing it to the growing seasons of the 1970’s and 1980’s. Consequently, the selected blocks for our Skilly Pinot Gris were harvested in late March, up to three weeks later than usual.

Created in a leaner, more complex style than many fuller bodied Pinot Gris’s that are currently on the market, this predominantly Skilly Valley sourced cuvee’ was crushed and drained before a cool three week fermentation took place. The ferment cut short at the very end in order to retain a hint of natural grape sugar to give the wine some added texture.

Pale straw in colour with youthful green tints and a brilliant clarity.

A richly flavoured and appealing nose, featuring exotic pears, green apples and cinnamon spices.

Often described as the perfect food wine, our Pinot Gris does not dissappoint as it blends green apples, Japanese pears and eastern spices with well crafted acidity and the textural interest of retained grape sugar in a long and rewarding palate experience.
