Released as our finest Riesling cuveé of the vintage, the 2016 Mort’s Reserve was chosen from a single block on our famed Mort’s Block vineyard. Planted in 1970, it’s red loamy topsoil over the much deeper limestone base and east – west orientated rows are the perfect ingredients from which to craft this wine.
The 2016 vintage proved to be an excellent one for Riesling. We carefully monitored flavour development and identified very early in the vintage which blocks were looking superior. The quality of the fruit almost enabled the wine to make itself. The cooler nights are instrumental in retaining high natural acidities, intense flavours and long ageing potentials.
Showcasing the most distinguished of Kilikanoon’s terroir, Mort’s Reserve Riesling is a symphony of texture and complexity. We use only hand harvested fruit and free run juice, before a long and cool ferment; crafting the unequivocal essence of Kilikanoon.

Mr Killerman, as a young Mort Mitchell called him, lived alone in a humble tin shed in the hills behind the Kilikanoon Cellar Door. Entirely self-sufficient, he grew his own fruit and vegetables and roamed the valley for his meals with rabbits being his favourite gourmet treat.
Mort grew to know and respect this man of the bush, learning the secrets of the land and how to become one with the environment. The Killerman's Run range of approachable wines showcases the distinguished and varied terroir of the Clare Valley and the Kilikanoon philosophy of uncompromised quality and consistency.
Fermented at cool temperatures for 3 weeks with an aromatic yeast strain. The ferment was arrested prior to complete dryness to give a hint of additional texture and roundness nicely balanced by naturally retained, crisp acidity.

This year, our Rosé was made as a cuveé of two old grenache vineyards, one adjacent the old Watervale Hotel and the other, a vineyard in Leasingham that was planted in 1944.
Both vineyards are well suited to making Rosé, possessing larger, juicier berries that have lower skin to juice ratios, thus maximising flavour. Both vineyards are hand pruned and hard harvested and managed in a very sustainable way.
Picked earlier that would otherwise for a fuller bodied red wine, both vineyards were harvested around 12.5 degrees Baumé to ensure freshness and a savoury to red cherry flavour spectum was achieved. Only given one hour skin contact, both parcels were gently pressed off and cold settled before fermenting cool at 13 degrees for 3 weeks. 0.65% of dry grown Mataro was added to introduce some additional spicy and savoury notes.

Rose petal, raspberries and alluring spring garden perfumes.
A very inviting and fresh wine, bringing together the flavours of red cherries, oriental spices and rose petals, beautifully balanced with zesty natural acidity and a touch of naturally retained grape sweetness. Although made to enjoy whilst young, additional benefit will be attained from one to two years of careful cellaring.
Sourced predominantly from the cooler Woodvale vineyard in the Skilly Valley and only a few hundred meters from our picturesque Kilikanoon cellar door near Penwortham.
For the most part, 2018 was a challenging vintage; a very dry spring, low summer rainfall and a dry harvest period threw up a number of challenges to both our winemaking and viticultural teams. But through careful vineyard management, attention to the finest detail and by selecting the best fruit possible, the year has turned out to be a quite a surprise package for our Skilly Pinot Gris. Intense flavours, good acid structure and strong balance hallmarks of the season.
Created in a leaner, more complex style than many fuller bodied Pinot Gris’s that are currently on the market, this predominantly Skilly Valley sourced cuvee’ was crushed and drained before a cool three week fermentation took place. The ferment cut short at the very end in order to retain a hint of natural grape sugar to give the wine some added texture.

Layers of pear, quince and exotic spices infuse the nose, lifted and aromatic.

Hand selected parcels were chosen from across our famed Golden Hillside vineyards, including the original Mort’s Block Vineyard that started it all. 100% Watervale fruit, only minutes from the Kilikanoon winery.
Completely hand-picked, and taking free run juice only, coupled with the mild seasonal conditions has created a wine of tremendous elegance, varietal character and ageing potential.
