2013 Mort's Cut Riesling

In very special years, we carefully cut through selected fruiting canes in a section of our Mort's Block vineyard around four weeks prior to harvest. This turns off the supply of moisture to the fruit, rapidly concentrating its flavours and natural sugar content and creating a luscious, yet refreshingly crisp, dessert styled wine.

    The 2013 vintage conditions were perfect for producing this sought after wine. Watervale soils are typified by fertile red brown loams overlying limestone sub layers; soil profiles that lend themselves to growing Riesling of exceptional distinction and character. All fruit was hand harvested during the middle of March, typically yielding 3.0 - 4.0 tonnes per hectare.


    Golden straw in colour with light green tints and brilliant clarity.


    Lifted notes of honey, fig and citris rind rounded out by subtle toastiness.


    A richly textured mouthfeel, luscious in style yet perfectly balanced on the finish with crisp natural acidity. The flavours of fresh citrus and fig beautifully supported by its underlying honeyed toastiness.

    • Dessert style but with no obvious botrytis. Clearly Riesling on the bouquet, showing some toasty development and richness of aroma. Lime juice and honey flavours dance across the palate, with impeccably fine acidity the perfect counterweight to the relatively moderate sweetness. Quite lovely.
