2007 Blocks Road Cabernet Sauvignon - Back Vintage

Kilikanoon Wines

Sold Out

THE 2007 VINTAGE WAS ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING OF THE PAST DECADE. DROUGHT CONDITIONS FOR MANY MONTHS LEADING UP TO HARVEST RESULTED IN CROPPING LEVELS FAR BELOW THE AVERAGE FOR CLARE VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON BUT WITH SUCH LOW YIELDS CAME VERY HIGH QUALITY PARCELS OF FRUIT. JUST ENOUGH RAINFALL FELL OVER THE HARVEST PERIOD TO FULLY SUSTAIN OUR BLOCKS ROAD CABERNET VINEYARDS LEADING TO A WINE OF OUTSTANDING FLAVOUR WARMTH AND VARIETAL CHARACTER.

  • Winemaking

Kilikanoon Blocks Road sets out to showcase what low yielding, fully ripened Clare Valley Cabernet can achieve. Selected parcels of fruit were hand harvested from two 40 year old dry grown vineyards in the Leasingham sub district of the Clare Valley before traditional vinification, basket pressing and 24 months maturation in new and older French oak hogsheads.

  • Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues.

  • Fragrant and intensely varietal featuring notes of cassis and blackcurrant with just a hint of tobacco leaf and scented, spicy French oak.

  • Focused and complex with a real textural backbone, the palate melds dark fruits, tobacco leaf and fine French oak to create a satisfyingly balanced wine with a long lingering finish

  • An ageing potential of at least 15-20  years with careful
    cellaring.

  • Alcohol 14.2%
