Place
The Golden Hillside Ridgeline Shiraz is is sourced from selected parcels of fruit grown on our estate owned vineyards in the southern Clare Valley. Originally planted after the first world war by returned soldiers, these unique plots of land continue to provide us with an amazing fruit resource.
Vintage Conditions
A dry yet cooler vintage, 2019 delivered small yields of highly flavoured fruit. The lower-than-average rainfall between December and harvest resulted in the grapes rapidly entering verasion and developing its colour. Shiraz thrived under these conditions, with cool nights and warm days, the shiraz ripened on the vine and began 'bagging' early, further concentrating the flavours naturally in the grape.
Winemaking
After all blocks were harvested, each parcel was kept separate and vinified in small open topped fermenters before basket pressing to a range of French hogsheads. After 15 months' maturation, the final blend was assembled and bottled without fining or filtration to ensure the wine's character and integrity was maximised.

Tasting Notes
Back Vintage Tasting Notes-
Appearance
Brick red in colour with brilliant, crimson hues.
-
Nose
Lifted notes of red plums, black olives, spicy meats and smoky oak scents feature prominently on the nose.
-
Palate
Full flavoured yet possessing subtle nuances that add to the wine's complexity and texture, the flavours of red plums, savoury spices, licorice and hints of tar carry forward from the nose, perfectly wedded to the wine's innate tannins and natural acidity. A serious wine that can be enjoyed now or benefit from additional cellaring.
