Showcasing the most distinguished of Kilikanoon's terroir, and produced only during the finest of vintages, the Asset Collection is a symphony of texture and complexity, exhibiting the unique and unequivocal essence of Kilikanoon.
$44.00Our strong interest and respect for French varietals continues at Kilikanoon, with the release of our first straight Mataro. Often called by its French name, Mourvedre (we prefer the local Australian moniker), Mataro has been used by Kilikanoon since 2002, its terrific length and flavour profile instrumental in many fine GSM blends. As a single varietal, Mataro tends to be quite tarry and spicy by design, its firm yet gentle tannins are a vital piece of its personality.
Fruit was picked in the coolness of early morning at optimal ripeness and flavour concentration. Fermented in an open fermenter for seven days prior to basket pressing into seasoned French oak hogsheads for 18 months maturation. Mataro is primarily used as a component in our GSM blends, however, in exceptional years this variety shows a completeness and personality that is worthy of its own singular wine. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues.
An unmistakeable Mataro nose of wild olive, charcuterie, dark cherries and tar, beautifully underpinned by charry French oak.
The perfectly poised palate, one that plays the primary fruit characters of dark cherries, roast meats and tar right alongside the fine boned tannins, spicy oak and lingering acid in an engaging and persistent finish.
With the exception of the 2011 vintage, each year since 1997 we have released the iconic Oracle Shiraz. Crafted from old vine fruit grown along the Golden Hillside in Leasingham, it continues to display the opulence, regional character and varietal power the valley is so renown for.
A number of low-yielding, discreet parcels of Shiraz were selected, vinified separately using time-honoured traditional winemaking techniques, then aged for 18 months in a selection of new and one year old, small French oak casks. The final cuvee was assembled and bottled, both unfined and unfiltered, in January 2016. Extended cellaring then occurred before the release of this wine in 2019.
Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues.
Richly focussed and hedonistic in its presentation, the aromas of dark chocolate, ripe plums, truffles, kitchen spices and cedary oak char swirl impressively on the nose.
The concentration, focus and textural qualities of this wine showcase its enduring legacy, further broadened through the raft of flavours both carried over from the nose and appearing for the first time. Ripe juicy plums, dark chocolate, Turkish delight, fresh licorice and tarry complexity, the classy oak and powdery tannins provide a lingering feature of the captivating finish of the wine.
$96.00Low yielding fruit from two vineyards, one positioned in the warmer Leasingham district and the other at our cellar door in the cooler, more elevated Skillogalee valley.
A classic Clare Valley vintage that featured warm days and cooler night temperatures, slowing down the harvest allowing both vineyards to be hand picked at their optimum levels of ripeness and maximising the development of the cassis and tobacco leaf characters, fine tannins and balanced natural acidity.
Once the hand picked fruit arrived at the winery, it was gently crushed and fermented on skins until dryness using selected, cultured yeasts. Once dry, each batch was basket pressed into a selection of new and 1 year old French oak hogsheads and allowed to mature for 18 months in our cellars. Final composition and bottling occurred without fining or filtration. This is the finest Cabernet in our portfolio with less than 3000 bottles produced.
Inky red in colour, with youthful crimson hues.
Fresh red berries, riper blackcurrent notes, hints of leaf and mint all meld seamlessly together, seductively supported classy French oak spices.
A textured yet taut and linear palate, the noble flavours of cassis, tobacco leaf, nuances of liquorice and lively red berries all superbly combine, further enhanced and fleshed out by the wines lively acidity and fine grained tannins; a Reserve wine made for the ages.
Our Baudinet Blend is named after a partner in Kilikanoon, Bruce Baudinet, who owns the Clare Valley vineyard where the Shiraz and Mataro are grown.
The 2015 vintage, with its cool nights, warm days and mostly dry conditions was perfect in slowing down the ripening process, elevating the distinctive regional fruit characters and seamless blend composition.
Made in the classic Rhône style, each of the three varieties individual characters are truly magnified when they come together in the final cuvée. To that end, all parcels of fruit are vinified and matured separately using traditional winemaking techniques; fifteen months maturation in seasoned French oak hogsheads and the final assemblage bottled unfined and unfiltered.
