The 2014 vintage really turned it on when it counted the most, with warm, late summer days and very cool nights being the prevailing order of things as the harvest approached. This textbook finish to the season, being perfect conditions in creating Classic Clare Valley Rieslings of vibrant acidity, intense flavour profiles and long ageing potential.
Our finest Riesling cuvee' of each season, the 2014 Mort's Reserve was crafted as a blend from two distinctive Watervale vineyard sites, the higher altitude Khileyre vineyard and the more southerly Mort's Block vineyard.
Brilliant in clarity, almost translucent in appearance with youthful green tints.
Impressively overt in style, the lifted aromas of fresh lemon juice, garden florals and citrus rind combine beautifully.
A beguiling palate of lemon zest, hand squeezed limes and piercing acidity come togther in a layered and persistent flavour experience. Made in a true Reserve style, the wine builds in the mouth and unleashes a riot of regional expression, focussed energy and cleansing linearity.
Released as our finest Riesling cuveé of the vintage, the 2015 Mort’s Reserve was chosen from a single block on our famed Mort’s Block vineyard. Planted in 1970, it’s red loamy topsoil over the much deeper limestone base and east – west orientated rows are the perfect ingredients from which to craft this wine.
The 2015 vintage proved to be an excellent one for Riesling. We carefully monitored flavour development and identified very early in the vintage which blocks were looking superior. The quality of the fruit almost enabled the wine to make itself. The cooler nights are instrumental in retaining high natural acidities, intense flavours and long ageing potentials.
Showcasing the most distinguished of Kilikanoon’s terroir, Mort’s Reserve Riesling is a symphony of texture and complexity. We use only hand harvested fruit and free run juice, before a long and cool ferment; crafting the unequivocal essence of Kilikanoon.
Pale straw with youthful green tints. Brilliant in clarity, almost translucent in appearance.
Fresh limes, lemon curd, tangerines and subtle floral notes overwhelm the nose.

$80.00Only from the finest vintages in the Clare Valley do we produce a Duke Reserve Grenache. 2012 provided that opportunity; the perfectly slow ripened fruit, intense flavours and aromatics, fine grained tannins, all beautifully matched to a blend of new and seasoned French oak casks to quietly build texture and complexity within.
Made in very limited quantities and sourced from an eighty year old vineyard in the heart of Watervale, the hand picked fruit parcels were destemmed and fermented in an open topped vessel on skins, until complete dryness, before basket pressing to small French oak casks to mature for 16 months. No fining or filtration were done before bottling and the wine enjoyed well over a year in the cellar before its current release.
Brick red in colour with vibrant crimson hues.
An intoxicatingly perfumed and sculptured nose, featuring notes of kirsch, cherry ripe, dark chocolate and truffles nicely supported by classy French oak char.
A mouthwatering and complex palate, cleverly harnessing the power of the old vine fruit flavours of dark cherry, cocoa and licorice with garden spices, licks of French oak and natural tannins.
$80.00Very much a sentimental favourite, the Duke is carefully blended from two single Grenache vineyards in Watervale, aged 72 and 78 years respectively. Both vineyards dry farmed, hand pruned and hand harvested.
From each hand-picked parcel arriving at the winery, to the small open topped fermenters that were used, to the basket pressing to three to six-year-old seasoned French oak hogsheads, traditional vilification processes have been followed, hardly changed over many generations of winemaking. Some extended skin contact and bottling the final cuvee, both unfined and unfiltered, has maximised the wines true potential.
Brick red in colour with brilliant crimson hues.
Perfumed and aromatic with a plushness and innate satisfaction to the nose, red currants, dark cherries and strawberry compote combine and are further enhanced with subtle oak and spicy herb nuances, contributing to the wine’s overall appeal.
Instantly recognised as Grenache – from its long, mineral driven structure and chalky tannins, to its bright cherry and blackcurrent fruits – the wine remains anchored to its unique terroir. Its sense of place carried from start, through to a persistent, flavoursome finish.
