2015 Killerman's Run Shiraz

NEW RELEASE

Mr Killerman, as a young Mort Mitchell called him, lived alone in a humble tin shed in the hills behind the Kilikanoon Cellar Door. Entirely self-sufficient, he grew his own fruit and vegetables and roamed the valley for his meals with rabbits being his favourite gourmet treat.

Mort grew to know and respect this man of the bush, learning the secrets of the land and how to become one with the environment. The Killerman's Run range of approachable wines showcases the distinguished and varied terroir of the Clare Valley and the Kilikanoon philosophy of uncompromised quality and consistency.

Our Killerman's Run Shiraz has been crafted through careful fruit selection, traditional winemaking techniques, sixteen months maturation in new seasoned French oak hogsheads and bottling unfiltered to fully enhance the wines character and appeal.

2015 was an excellent vintage overall. A very dry Spring was broken by soaking rains in January and February that put the vintage back on track. Cool conditions for the most part of February finished things off well, spacing out the harvest and allowing individual fruit parcels to be harvested at their optimum ripeness.

Wine Review
Soft but vibrant, this wild and briary shiraz is a delightful early-drinking red whose spicy, peppery expression of small berry flavour is carefully matched with creamy cedary oak and a pliant spine of supple tannins. Punctuated by a bright acidity, its lingering core of fruit finishes with pleasing balance and a note of licorice.
