2016 Skilly Valley Pinot Gris

NEW RELEASE

A cool climate Pinot Gris, majority sourced from the Woodvale vineyard in the Skillogallee Valley.

After a dry late spring and summer growing season, the harvest season finished quite wet and cool, before hand harvesting, early draining and a long cool ferment, with bottling occurring early to preserve the wines vibrancy and varietal appeal.
Appearance
Pale straw in colour with youthful green tints and a brilliant clarity.
Nose
A richly focussed and lifted nose, chock full of green apples, squeezed limes and cinnamon spices.
Palate
The perfect accompaniment to a range of classic dishes, the palate combines the extroverted flavours of green apples, lime juice and oriental pears, with crisp acidity and the textural interest of natural grape sugars in a balanced and persistent finish.
Cellaring
Typically enjoyed young and fresh but will attain additional complexity if given 2 - 3 years of careful cellaring.
Alcohol
13.0% v/v

Wine Review
You get this sense that the fruit choice here - from a couple of higher sites in Clare's Penwortham district - enables winemaker Kevin Mitchell, who's a master in the Riesling genre as well, to tease out the most attractive pear and sweetly exotic cinnamon aromas to start, but also find that refreshing fulcrum where the flavor and the acidity balance and accentuate each of their positive influences. One of the best PG's this year.

Wine Review
Faint straw-pink; hand-picked and cool-fermented, the wine has more varietal fruit expression and ripeness than is usual for the Clare Valley. Indeed, there's even a hint of strawberry to accompany the pear and citrus fruit.

Wine Review
A lively, energetic pinot gris with lemony flavours and bright acidity. Nuances of spiced pears and apple pie. Great flavour intensity and refreshing acidity on the finish

"He demonstrates a brilliant touch with Riesling as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The cuvees produced under the 'Killerman's Run' label all represent terrific bargains"
